About Matt Gibson

Matt Gibson is a Travel Blogger who specializes in Eco-friendly outdoors adventures

I'm an adventure travel writer, photographer, and editor with a background in professional photography and journalism and a passion for eco-friendly outdoors adventures.

Something not commonly know about Matt Gibson:
At 25 I founded one of the largest and most popular all-English magazines in Taiwan. I ran it for three years before selling it. I didn't speak any Chinese when I started, but by the end my business vocabulary was quite respectable.

Matt Gibson in the press:
My website has been featured in numerous publications, most recently on the websites of The Atlantic and USA Today. I starred in an episode of House Hunters International that aired in early 2012. I've worked with numerous respected travel publications -- both in print and online -- including AFAR, Transitions Abroad, Travel + Escape, the Huffington Post, and more.

I contribute occasionally to the Huffington Post and write a column at Transitions Abroad.

About Matt Gibson's Adventure Travel Blog

My blog focusses on exciting and healthy environmentally friendly outdoors activities. My writing is casual, light, entertaining and densely packed with well-researched information. My blog includes: - Personal adventure narratives - Topic-oriented photoessays - Interviews with well-known adventurers and travelers (people well-known in their fields, rarely other travel bloggers) - Quirky outdoors- and travel-related news stories - Inspiring videos - Travel tips - Gear reviews - How-to guides - Destination guides and interviews with adventurers. The site was launched in 08/2008

History of the blog
I originally launched as an online portfolio for my published writing. As it grew I saw the opportunity for another income stream and began to work on it more as a standalone publication. I soon saw that the travel blog market was becoming over saturated and that there was a gap in the adventure niche. Being an outdoorsy and athletic person, I saw this as a natural fit and decided to focus both my freelance writing and blog on that niche. It was a great move. I've rapidly become known as an adventure travel authority. My blog caught the attention of AFAR magazine (who I now work with) as well as Outside who have approached me about a collaboration (although nothing has come to fruition with them yet).

Future plans for the blog
I've recently begun promoting my email mailing list to increase my engaged readership and have been quite successful. I plan to work with tourism boards to create new destination-based products that they the tourism boards will promote and I will offer for free to those that sign up for my newsletter. I'm also working on some strategies for working with other bloggers to collectively increase our value to site sponsors through collaboration, both on a day-to-day basis and for specific time-sensetive campaigns for product launches.
